Geordie Stewart 7 Summits   [posted: 11aug2011]

On July 6th 2011, Gordon's Wine Bar was the scene of a different kind of event. Geordie Stewart, now working with the Facewatch project in a bid to reduce crime in London, was celebrating becoming the Youngest Brit to climb the 7 Summits - the highest mountain on every continent. Geordie, now 22, set out to achieve this goal over 4 years ago and reached the top of the world on 26th May after spending 2 months on the slopes of Mt Everest. His expedition was in aid of the charity, the RNLI, which saves lives at sea. The sun shone as Geordie gave a short talk on his experiences and showed a film on his Everest expedition amongst his friends, family and members of the press.

Facewatch   [posted: 21jun2011]

Theft - this is a thorny subject and most places pretend it doesn't happen on their premises but I want to ensure nothing bad ever happens to you while you are in Gordon's - any of you who have had anything stolen will know how horrible it is to have this happen. I have been working on a solution and it has now appeared on Crimewatch (last week). It is called Facewatch and there is lots of information on the website www.facewatch.co.uk. The Crimewatch video is on youtube at www.youtube.com/watch?v=CAcCajgyxEg.

You will be glad to hear we have reduced theft right down to negligible levels now! If any of you have any ideas or contacts that can help us to make if more widely used I would love to hear from you!

Joan's 90th birthday on 7th February 2011   [posted: 13feb2011]

Joan was thrilled with all the cards and messages that you all sent to her. Although she has problems getting around now due to her bad knee she is in great form and was counting all the cards and looking at the photo album we gave her. She has lots of friends in her sheltered housing flat (which is really nice) and is going to bring them down to Gordon's one of these days!! You can see some pictures of our visit on the pictures page [click here].

Gordon's creates Facewatch   [posted: 03dec2010]

Just to let you know about a new business I started with some friends because I got so fed up with people having stuff stolen when they were at Gordon's and seeing how inefficient the whole system of catching and preventing these kind of incidents was between Police and businesses. It really upsets me that anyone leaves Gordon's having had their time spoilt by some thieving swine!

The company is called Facewatch and is designed to dramatically reduce low level crime. Put very simply - if you get your wallet stolen in a bar, you and a representative of the business would fill out a simple form online, get a crime reference and upload relevant CCTV pictures and footage. The police would then be free to take the case on.

The system will save huge amounts of police time and enable them to get on with their job rather than filling out forms and looking through hours of CCTV. The Facewatch website has a short video explaining it (narrated by Neil Bennett who was the BBC chief crime correspondent for many years). We also had some nice coverage on Sky news - Click to view.

We are a start up business but have come a long way since we first started in April. However we need all the help we can get to gain support of people in high places and get decent PR coverage. If any of you out there can help by joining our Facebook page as supporters (click here) and adding any supportive comments it would be much appreciated. Also if you are able to support with PR or with contacts I would be really grateful.

I genuinely believe now that Facewatch could make a massive improvement to the way low level crime is dealt with and in these austere times across the globe we need to all do our bit to help each other out in the fight against crime.
